New broker: Best part of Sioux Falls is its future

Michael Martin, a broker associate with NAI Sioux Falls.  Growing up in Brandon, he worked for his father’s construction company, leading him to earn a degree in construction management from South Dakota State University. He started managing commercial property for NAI five years ago before becoming a broker associate in the past year.

Question: What’s the best part about your job?

Answer: I like the variety. Every day brings different obstacles and new challenges to overcome and the opportunity to grow.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience in the industry so far?

A: I don’t think I have any one experience that particularly stands out to me, but I did come across quite a few interesting situations managing commercial property that made me shake my head.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering a career in your field?

A:  Be proactive in your future. Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you, but go and seek them out. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.

Q: What motivates you to be active in your community or profession?

A: Having the desire to better my life and those around you, including those who are less fortunate, is what inspires me.

Q: Do you have a certain service organization or charity you like to support?

A: I’m on the board of directors for a wonderful and rewarding organization called HorsePower. HorsePower provides equestrian programs and therapy for individuals with physical, emotional and cognitive challenges. You can find out more at handiriders.wordpress.com or find us on Facebook.

Q: What do you do for fun?

A: Outside of spending time with family and friends, I’m an avid triathlete. I spend a lot of time on my bike, in the pool and running on the bike trails, especially in the spring and summer.

Q: What do you like about living in Sioux Falls?

A: To me, what I like best is the future that Sioux Falls has in front of it. We have a great economy, great schools and great citizens that continue to make Sioux Falls great now and in the future. That and the bike trails; I love the bike trails we have.

Q: What can Sioux Falls do to attract more young professionals?

A: In my opinion, the best way to attract young professionals to Sioux Falls is by having a strong job market with quality, well-paying jobs. I think that Sioux Falls has a lot to offer young professionals, as long as the career opportunities are there for them.
