Property Description

An outstanding quarter section of farmland situated in Beadle County, one of the leading agriculture counties in South Dakota. This highly tillable 160 acres is located five miles west of Wolsey, SD and has easy access adjacent to the blacktop county road.

The field is recognized for its quality because of the gently sloping terrain with few low spots. The soil composition is excellent as most of the field is comprised of the highly sought after Houdek Prosper soil type (111 acres) with the balance in the well regarded Tetonka-Hoven silt loam (39 acres).

These rich soil types, combined with a mostly consistent rainfall pattern have produced some terrific yields in west-central Beadle County. Recent USDA records show that three main crops have flourished on this ground. FSA counter-cyclical yields for corn have been averaging 101 bushels per acre with soybeans reported at 32 bushels per acre. Althought the wheat base is just 5.7 acres, the FSA average yield is 29 bushels per acre.

US Weather Service records reveal that nearly 20 inches of rain falls on this farm ground with almost 14 inches recorded during crucial growing months of April through September. Last Spring, this area received a staggering rainstorm of eight to 10 inches of moisture. However, this 160 acre field drained quickly and crops were planed within a timely manner. The result - an excellent fall harvest, again.
